Description
From Burundi’s Kayanza region, Yandaro showcases heirloom Bourbon and expert processing for a clean, sweet cup. From hot to cool, it's a well balanced and approachable cup with complex sweetness, milk chocolate, citrus, black tea, baking spices and dried fruit.
Yandaro is a beautifully expressive coffee from the highlands of Kayanza, Burundi, showcasing the incredible depth and vibrancy of the region's heirloom Bourbon varieties. Grown at elevations near 1800 meters and above, this washed process lot is full of sweetness and aromatic complexity. The dry fragrance alone is captivating, with scents of raw cane sugar, maple syrup, and a touch of cinnamon. Once hot water hits the grounds, the aromatics blossom—steam rises with notes of fresh-pressed sugar cane juice, citrus peel, and soothing herbal tea.
In the cup, Yandaro delivers a broad, layered sweetness reminiscent of caramel and raw sugars, balanced by lively citrus and tea-like brightness that refreshes the palate. Lemon and green apple highlights tie into the vibrant acidity, carrying through to a clean, brisk finish with hints of zested orange, baking spice, and English Breakfast tea. As the roast deepens to Full City, Yandaro reveals silky milk chocolate tones, subtle notes of dark grape and raisin, and a rich, caramelized sugar finish. Great for a snappy single origin espresso.
Yandaro Station itself is more than just a processing site—it's a vital hub in the Kabarore Commune, serving 22 surrounding villages. Originally built in the 1980s during a period of World Bank investment, the station has recently flourished under the management of a local coffee investment group. This partnership has brought agronomical support, equipment maintenance, and a focus on separating lots by quality, leading to standout recognition in national competitions. With recent placements in Burundi’s Cup of Excellence, Yandaro is a testament to the region’s potential and the dedication of its farming community.
