Description

Check the rare Kenia varietal off the bucket list

This unique Kenia variety micro-lot offers a vibrant profile of blueberry, raspberry, and star fruit over a dark chocolate base. Grown in volcanic soil and naturally processed, it delivers a bright acidity and deep cane sugar sweetness.

The Costa Rica Centro Kenia Natural is a standout micro-lot from Finca El Centro, part of the award-winning Brumas del Zurquí mill in the Central Valley. Managed by Juan Ramón Alvarado Rodríguez, the farm sits at 1,600 masl and benefits from fertile volcanic soil and a century-long family legacy of coffee excellence.

The Kenia varietal was originally introduced to Costa Rica in the mid-20th century, this selection is prized for its ability to mimic the iconic profile of Kenyan coffees; offering a bright, lively acidity and an intensely juicy mouthfeel. Because the Kenia variety is delicate and produces lower yields than modern hybrids, it is rarely cultivated, making this expression from Finca El Centro a distinct rarity. In the volcanic soil of the Central Valley, it develops a complex aromatic profile and a layered, fruit-forward sweetness that is truly unique to the region.

Expect a bright and complex profile featuring vibrant notes of blueberry, raspberry, and star fruit, balanced by the deeper sweetness of fig, cane sugar, and a dark chocolate finish. This offering highlights why Costa Rica remains a leader in both quality and agricultural sustainability, where producers receive a guaranteed high percentage of the export value to support universal healthcare and advanced agronomy.
