Description

Los Medios offers bittersweet base flavors in a well-balanced cup with rich caramel sweetness
complemented by subtle undertones of baked apple and a smooth, chocolatey finish.

This Maracaturra features medium-sized beans, but the flavors are anything but modest. The cup is less delicate than other Maracaturras, with more pronounced sweetness, body, and a milder acidity. The fragrance carries notes of raw sugars that, when brewed, develop into deep caramel tones with hints of cooked fruits and walnut. Unrefined sugars and balanced bittersweetness create a delicious base with rich chocolate flavors with just a touch of baked apple. This coffee also makes excellent espresso, especially after a 5-day rest, offering lasting bittersweet chocolate notes reminiscent of a high-percentage cacao bar, with a hint of dark fruit.

The Maracaturra is a large-bean coffee, a hybrid between Caturra and Maragogype, known as the "Elephant Bean." The farms in Buenos Aires are primarily located in Dipilto, at elevations between 1200 and 1600 meters above sea level. While mostly grown in Nicaragua, there's also good examples in El Salvador. Buenos Aires sits at a lower elevation than other farms we source from, with this lot coming from around 1200 meters. The coffee is wet processed, meaning the cherry is mechanically separated from the seed, and the sticky mucilage is removed through overnight wet fermentation.
