Finca Perros Bravos, translating to "Fierce Dogs," is a pioneering coffee farm located in the lush, high-altitude mountains of Ciudad Bolívar, Antioquia, Colombia. Founded by Juan David Cardona and his family, this farm is a testament to his bold vision. Though originally studying astrophysics, Juan David redirected his ambition toward coffee, pioneering natural processing in a country known for its washed coffee traditions. Inspired by his time in Brazil, he built Colombia’s first dedicated natural processing facility, experimenting with fermentation and drying techniques to produce coffees with vibrant, layered flavors.
Antioquia, along with Tolima, stands as one of Colombia’s largest coffee-producing regions. The area benefits from two dry and two wet seasons annually, allowing for two harvests—one in May and June and another from October to December. The high-altitude terrain fosters complexity in the cup while maintaining a balanced, approachable profile. Colombian coffee itself has a storied history, introduced by Jesuit priests in the 18th century and expanding into a global industry by the 19th century. The National Federation of Coffee Growers (FNC), founded in 1927, played a crucial role in promoting Colombian coffee worldwide, notably through the iconic "Juan Valdez" campaign. Today, innovators like Juan David continue to shape the industry, not only through their farming practices but also by mentoring young growers. Producing over ten containers of naturally processed coffee annually, Finca Perros Bravos stands at the forefront of Colombia’s evolving coffee legacy.
