Description
Floral and fruit-forward with notes of red berries, citrus, and jammy sweetness. A vibrant dry process Ethiopia from high in the Uraga region
This dry process Ethiopia from the Raro Boda washing station offers a deeply aromatic and fruit-forward cup that's both bright and complex. The ground coffee releases an intensely sweet, candy-like fragrance, setting the stage for a vibrant mix of red berries, floral highlights, and fruit preserves in the brew. Light roasts bring out the best in this lot, capturing notes of raspberry jam, apple tart with browned sugar, and a distinct perfumed floral quality that carries through from aroma to finish. Juicy tangerine and grapefruit add sparkle to the cup, while passion fruit and guava candy lend an exotic, aromatic lift. As the cup opens up, rustic notes of dried apricot and fig jam add depth and warmth. While pour over brewing highlights the clarity and acidity especially well, the bold, layered flavors translate beautifully across most brew methods.
Grown at elevations reaching 2250 meters above sea level, this coffee comes from Raro Boda village, located on the eastern edge of Uraga in the Guji region—an area quickly gaining recognition for exceptional cup quality. The washing station sources cherries from around 700 small-scale farmers, each tending less than one hectare of coffee. Established in 2018, Raro Boda recently upgraded their wet mill with ceramic fermentation tanks, improving cleanliness and quality. Though they produce both washed and natural coffees, this dry process lot stood out to us for combining the best of both worlds: it's floral and bright, yet richly jammy.
