Description

The Kenya Nyeri Igutha AB is part of one of our importing partners direct trade program, guaranteeing well above fair trade minimum prices to the producers - often well over 100%!  This Kenyan is a captivating coffee from the Nyeri region renowned for its bright and juicy cup profiles and syrupy body. Cup yields notes of simple syrup sugars and aromatic notes reminiscent of Earl Grey tea, complemented by floral stone fruits and vibrant flavors of green grape, orange, and cranberry.

Upon encountering the ground coffee, one is immediately struck by its enticing fruit and spice notes.  Our developed light roast results in punchy fruits, pineapple, and an appealing citrus-spice fusion. The sweetness exudes from the wet aromatics, akin to the aroma of pineapple upside-down cake. As the coffee cools, delicate citrus notes emerge, enhancing the overall brightness and juiciness of the cup.

This exceptional offering hails from the Igutha wet mill, a part of the Rugi Farmer's Cooperative Society in Nyeri. Established in the late 1960s, Rugi provides invaluable support to its 600 members, overseeing operations, offering agronomical assistance, and facilitating marketing efforts. Igutha's coffee cherries, sourced from smallholder farms situated at altitudes ranging from 1700 to 1900 meters, undergo meticulous processing, including up to 48 hours of fermentation and sun drying on raised beds for 2-3 weeks.
