Description
Sourced from high-altitude farms in the Bensa district of Sidama, this organic heirloom lot is the result of a 14-year partnership with Daye Bensa founder Asefa Dukamo. It offers notes of jasmine, citrus blossom, and bright stone fruit sweetness leading to a smooth and clean finish.
This lot represents a long-standing 14-year partnership centered in the Bensa district of Ethiopia’s Sidama region. Working alongside local smallholders across Bensa, Asefa and the Daye Bensa team process heirloom varieties cultivated at soaring elevations between 1,900 and 2,100 meters. The cool mountain air and high altitude result in exceptionally dense, flavorful cherries that reflect meticulous care at every stage of production. Their approach is defined by consistency: from the initial hand-selection of ripe cherries to a careful 10–12 day drying process on raised beds. Ensuring that every lot delivers the bright, transparent quality that the Sidama region is world-famous for.
The cup profile is a textbook example of high-quality Ethiopian washed coffee, characterized by a clean, vibrant acidity and an elegant aromatic complexity. It opens with an inviting floral fragrance that transitions into a delicate, tea-like body. Notes of sweet peach and lemongrass provide a refreshing brightness, while the balanced, crisp finish highlights the classic, sophisticated profile that specialty coffee lovers expect from this renowned origin. It is a harmonious, nuanced cup that captures the essence of the Bensa terroir through years of disciplined, sustainable partnership.
